《机器人系列》、《银河帝国三部曲》、《基地》三个系列被誉为“科幻圣经”均由一人所著。作者介绍如下：

艾萨克·阿西莫夫，美国科幻小说作家、科普作家、文学评论家，美国科幻小说黄金时代的代表人物之一。阿西莫夫一生著述近500本，题材涉及自然科学、社会科学和文学艺术等许多领域，与儒勒·凡尔纳、赫伯特·乔治·威尔斯并称为科幻历史上的三巨头。

1972年1月，在一次例行体检中，阿西莫夫被发现患有甲状腺癌，不得不动了一次手术。1973年11月16日，在经历了为期三年半的离婚大战后，阿西莫夫与妻子杰特鲁德正式离婚。同年11月30日，他与新伴侣珍尼特结婚。

1974年8月，阿西莫夫出版了科幻短篇《双百人》，讲述一个想变成人类的机器人的故事，再度获得评论界的赞誉。
